What is Chakradance

Chakradance is a therapeutic movement practice that blends music, guided imagery and intuitive free-flow dance to activate and harmonise the seven energy centres.

It’s not choreography. It’s not performance.

It’s a somatic journey that helps the body unwind old emotional patterns, recalibrate the nervous system and bring you back into yourself.

Every session invites you to move instinctively, breathe deeply and reconnect with the part of you that knows how to heal.

A sneak peek into a Chakradance class

You don’t need to know anything about chakras or dance. If you can breathe and feel, you can take part.

How a class works

Every Chakradance session follows a gentle, supportive flow that helps your body ease in, open up and integrate.

guided opening

A short meditation brings you into your body and connects you with your internal rhythm.

intuitive movement journey

Music, imagery and instinctive free-flow movement guide you through the seven energy centres. No choreography. No performance. You move the way your body wants to move.

You express what surfaced through something simple and grounding like mandala art, journaling or quiet reflection.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Chakradance is almost like entering into a waking dream. Specifically selected and composed music, and tailored visualisations help you tap into your inner world. You close your eyes and surrender to the music. From here the process involves letting the movements emerge spontaneously. As the music’s vibrations affect you, you may see images in your mind’s-eye, recall memories or gain insights related to each chakra. You may also feel emotions or physical sensations.

Just bring yourself (and your own water bottle) to a live session! Any materials or handouts will be provided in the class for you. At the time of sign up, you will receive further information about the class. It is important you are comfortable so please wear suitable clothing for movement and we dance barefoot! If you have any questions, please just ask me directly.

The Chakradance journey is an INNER experience. You will be dancing with your eyes closed, or drawn down. It is totally up to you on how much physical movement you do. Some weeks you may find yourself quite active, other weeks you may move very little. That is all part of the magic and experience.

The most obvious physical benefit is that it boosts your fitness. It’s a cardio workout that gets everything moving from your face to your feet. It really gets your heart pumping; releasing endorphins to make you feel great. For those who are looking for a more spiritual connection, each workshop is designed to work a different chakra. There are seven main chakras; these centers of energy may be under or over active. Balancing them leads to many benefits, including better relationships, improved confidence and self esteem, emotional health, enhanced creativity, and heightened inspiration and clarity. But the biggest benefit of all is the absolute freedom to be yourself!

It really doesn’t matter if you don’t know anything about the chakras. Although I do provide information about the chakras throughout the classes and workshops, Chakradance is all about experiencing your chakras. The classes will provide you with an embodied understanding of the chakra system and you will learn to work with your chakras in practical ways.

Each of the seven chakras vibrates at its own frequency. Music is able to balance the chakras by using the sound vibrations to tune each energy center. The music is modern dance music with specific musical tones that resonate with the chakras. Interwoven with the music are the pure tones of crystal bowls sourced from across the globe, that release a vibrational sound field that is an essential ingredient of each dance. Chakradance music has a lasting effect. The vibrations continue to pulse outward into our energy field long after the sounds have stopped playing. The more we experience these healing sounds, the greater and the more permanent the effect. When the music is combined with spontaneous dance, the healing effect is magnified.

It’s possible to dance for as little as 15 minutes a day to feel the benefits of Chakradance. Most people get hooked after their first time. I facilitate a nine-week course of 90 minute workshops with each class focusing on a different chakra (as well as an introductory and integration class). I also run special three-hour workshops where you are guided through the dance of all 7 chakras in one session. The more regularly you do it the better. Each time you Chakradance the experience is quite different.
